Sharing of information on YouTube and other Social Networking websites can be visualized and shared now. The users can visualize their info in depth assisted with technical displays such as graphs, charts and other visuals they create to help analyze the data buried in spread sheets, tables or text writes Annie Eisenberg in a New York Times Service news report.

The users can now upload the data they want to visualise at an experimental website manyeyes and check the technical information they need to know about their information on the web.

Scientists at the Watson Research Centre of IBM in Cambridge, Massachusetts created the site to help people publish and discuss graphics in a group says the report.

There is a good scope of analysis and the commenting on other's works by visualising the data through different tools and discover unexpected patterns in the data.

The report says, the site is the brainchild of Martin Wattenberg and Fernanda B.Viegas two IBM researchers at the Cambridge laboratory.

Dr.Wattenberg elaborated, the technology have been historically the province of professionals, academia, business and government "we want to bring visualisation to a whole new audience" he said to people who have relatively few ways to create and discuss such use of data.

Now the users can embed images and links to their visualisations in websites or blogs, just as they can embed YouTube videos.

Ben Shniederman, a professor in the computer science department at the University of Maryland at college park, and a pioneer in information visualisation technology adds " The gift of Internet is that everyone can participate, and the tools can be brought to a much wider audience," he said.

" The great fun of information visualisation," he said,"is that it gives you answers to questions you didn't know you had"

Qantas interim report on the emergency landing on July 25 released on Friday

Stumble Upon Toolbar
Air safety inspectors in its preliminary interim report on Friday, which is not yet a final binding one, confirmed that an exploding oxygen cylinder ripped a gaping hole on Boeing 747-438 aircraft's fuselage mid flight last month belonging to the Australian airlines Qantas. Julian Walsh, acting executive director of the Australian Transport Safety Bureau released this interim report on an ongoing investigation of the emergency aboard the aircraft, which took place while carrying 365 people, over the South China Sea on July 25 almost an hour after take off from Hong Kong.

Fridays report confirmed that one of the seven oxygen cylinders below the cabin floor had exploded, causing the emergency. The flight made a miraculous emergency landing at the Philippine's capital city Airport of Manila after having lost the landing instruments due the severe emergency, which led to the plane's dropping to an altitude of 3000 m, where the oxygen masks are not required generally if there are no patients and elderly people aboard the aircraft.

Mr Walsh could not say what exactly could have been done to prevent this type of incident as the investigations are still going on and the aircraft is presently parked at the Manila airport where a physical examination for clues to the cause of the near-disaster has been completed.

The 12 kg steel cylinder, pressurized to 1,850 pounds per square inch (12,755 Kilo pascals), "sustained a failure that allowed a sudden and complete release of the pressurized contents," Mr. Walsh said. The explosion blew a hole in the fuselage 202 cm wide and 152 cm high, the report said. Most of the cylinder rocketed up through the cabin floor, shearing off an emergency exit door handle and narrowly missing a crew seat before striking the cabin roof. It ricocheted down through the hole it created in the cabin floor, the report said. All of the cylinder's remains dropped through the ruptured fuselage and disappeared into the sea.

Investigations are still on to find the cylinder's manufacturing and all the safety procedures involved before installing the cylinders on board an aircraft.

Since the incident Qantas has carried out its fleet wide inspections on the cylinders and other safety measures. Qantas released a statement backing the preliminary report's findings that an exploding bottle had caused the emergency.

The explosion aboard the flight from London to Melbourne, Australia, has raised questions about the much lauded safety of Australia's flagship airline, which has never lost a jet aircraft because of an incident.

News Source - AP

The impact of the emergency can be gauged from the fact the cylinder made a gaping hole in the cabin and ricocheted back through the same hole, so it was a very gaping hole indeed as generally the cylinders ricochet could have prevented it from escaping the cabin and the fuselage had the holes been small. This was definitely a major emergency case, it was all luck that have saved the passengers lives on the plane. And the credit should go to the crew which managed the emergency landing of the aircraft without the vital landing instruments, which were lost in the incident.

You need to sweat it out to be a successful Blogger, this is what I have found through my extensive research on the subject as many might already know this, but the real problem for part timers is they cannot devote much of their time to Blogging due to the working schedules and experts in the business disclose that there is fierce competition in the field, as we have some idea about it ourselves.

Of the many tips particularly for the beginners, I have found through my research is that, they should blog extensively in their starting days to gain popularity among readers and should be ready to provide outstanding information on the subject if not a very extensive approach.

Though I personally have tasted success with one such article which I wrote, I continuously received traffic for well over a week for that single page and it was definitely a good learning practical experience for me.

What separates the good blogger from the others is the quality of information and the real need has to be compensated by the Blogger for the person who is out there searching for a good source. So better preparation and execution has to be the hallmark of a good blogger.

French man with two asses surprises Swedish Customs

Stumble Upon Toolbar
Custom officials at the Swedish port were surprised to see a French man with his two four-legged pack animals who just embarked from a ferry on to the Swedish port city of Gothenburg from Denmark.

The rules at the port required the French man to complete a mandatory Veterinary test required by the Swedish Board of Agriculture on the donkeys under the rules for bringing animals into the country, which would cost the Frenchman €250($395) a sum which the tourist was not ready to pay.

According to the news report AbdelAziz hails from Brittany in Northern France and was wandering with his two donkeys Nounou and Toutoune for about two months in Europe and the Journey was quite smooth until the trio landed up on the Swedish shores where they were met with request for permits and other required documents according to the local news daily Göteborg-Posten.

The whole story left a bad taste with the animals owner getting frustrated, “I had thought about just going to Stockholm and then heading back but now I’m not sure what’s going to happen. All they care about are documents,” Abdelaziz said to GP as he nodded toward the customs checkpoint.

And he also said “If the boat had still been here I would have probably gone back to Denmark at once,” he said.

Port officials were caught in a dilemma of what exactly the rules were for importing two animals inside Sweden from another EU country for a temporary stay.

“Who was it who said that we had common EU rules?” said one, according to GP the Local newspaper.

“Where are the voluntary powers in society which can arrange a roof over one’s head and a spot of grass?” asked another.

Finally the authorities after much deliberations started a collection to pay for the mandatory Veterinary test fees for the animals, in hopes that the Frenchman would overlook the bureaucratic glitch.

“We couldn't just send him back to Denmark. It’s actually a little shameful, there’s nothing human behind this. That’s just the way it is when everything hinges on a bunch of paper,” said a harbour worker who wished to remain anonymous.

Finally the Vet arrived and Nounou and Toutoune passed with flying colours.

After a few days AbdelAziz was found heading towards the central Swedish city of Borås, traveling about 30 km's a day.

"Everyday, I start a new life" quipped the French man.

This is the story before the French man was starting his journey inside Sweden.

This story took place in June this year.

The French man later completed the journey inside Sweden, when he reached Stockholm, the Swedish Capital after wandering through the country roads with his two trusty companions.

Dubbed 'the ass man' by the Swedish press, 65-year-old Jacques Abdelaziz later returned to Brittany in northern France to attend his son’s wedding in October.

And all along the way, the journey did turned a few heads of the local populace. Abdelaziz said his journey across Sweden went faster than expected, and he later got a ride for himself and his two pack animals to Nyköping, from where he headed back to Brittany in Northern France.

There is a point here to be noted, How many times Have I used the search engine today, 5 times, 10 times, in all of my browsing time today. It is a very less percentage of time that I spent browsing the Internet. What Are People Actually Doing On The Web ?

Hi, How are you ?

Stumble Upon Toolbar
An old song strikes my head as I write, as I sometimes go hysterical and share all with everybody, but I will not be so conservative and or a neocon or some shell-guy, who never want to closet with other friends. Here it is, I went for a small search only to find this, Is it good ?

Don't think you got me girl,
Don't think you can tame me and change me,
Don't think that it's all because of you,
Just because I don't run around,
Just because we're forever together,
Don't you think of a four letter word to use . . .

So what if I just don't want anybody else but you,
So what if you're all that I ever really wanna do,
I know what you're thinkin' but that doesn't make it true . . .

Believe me baby!!!

I'm not in love,
No not at all,
What makes you think,
You made me fall,
I slip but no I'm not in love . . .

What if I just can't sleep at night,
I see your face in the starry skies,
So high above,
But, girl I'm not in love . . .

Don't think you got it made,
Don't think it's to easy to keep me,
Never know it could all just fade away . . .

So what if I just don't want anybody else but you,
So what if you're all I really wanna do,
I know what you're thinkin' but that doesn't make it true . . .

Believe me baby!!!

I'm not in love,
No not at all,
What makes you think,
You made me fall, I slip but no I'm not in love . . .

What if I just can't sleep at night,
I see your face in the starry skies,
So high above,
But, girl I'm not in love . . .

So if my heart just skips a beat,
What if I lose a little sleep . . .

Believe me!!!

I'm not in love,
No not at all,
What makes you think,
You made me fall, I slip but no I'm not in love . . .

What if I just can't sleep at night,
I see your face in the starry skies,
The way you feel,
It makes it right,
I'm not in love . . .

I'm not in love,
No not at all,
What makes you think,
You made me fall, I slip but no I'm not in love . . .

What if I just can't sleep at night,
I see your face in the starry skies,
The way you feel,
It makes it right,
I'm not in love . . .

********End*********

Hey, but this is not what I was looking for, and I haven't heard this song, how actually it sounds I don't know, but the guy here I guess "I'm not in love" guy, seems to be pretty much in love here. Good for him, but what I was looking for was something like this one, like you all people like.

Baby set me free
From this misery
I can't take this no more
Since you went away
Nothing's been the same
Don't know what I'm living for Here I am
So alone
And there's nothing in the world I can do CHORUS:
Until you're back here baby
Miss you, want you , need you so
Until you're back here, baby
There's a feeling inside I want you to know
You are the one and I can't let you go So I told you lies
Even made you cry
Baby I was so wrong
Girl, I promise you
Now my love is true
This is what I'm living for Coz here I am
So alone
And there's nothing in the world I can do CHORUS And I wonder
Are you thinking of me
Coz I'm thinking of you
And I wonder
Are you ever coming back in my life Coz here I am
So alone
And there's nothing in the world I can do CHORUS

I like more of this song when it traverses ....like 'Here I am all alone And there's nothing in the world I can do', I like, like 'Here I am all alone' pretty much like most of you reading might or might not like the song at all. Forgive me, if I am ending eating up your brains, but this is what I want to write about, so bear with me for a while, thank you, yeah now I like this 'Here I am all alone' and there's this thing 'And there's nothing in this world I can do' I sometimes feel weird about this line, I know the song is great, pretty much great, I don't want to mess up with BBMAK fans out there but, I feel this particularly when I relate this song to me or in case somebody of you might agree with me or not. And the rest of the song is quite OK, but this thing 'doo.....'nothing I can doooo'.....'nothing I can dooooo'. OK, it's fine. Let's move one. But the song is great, the guitar, music and all. It was knocking inside my head, now that it is out I am feeling fine. It just went inside of yours, so just try to figure it out OK, just in case, I guess you put up a firewall, in case if it tries to sneak in....

After winning the 2008 Olympus US Open Mens series Nadal will be competing along with the 2008 Olympus Womens series winner Dinara Safina to win the highest pay-outs for winning the US Open in the Tennis Slam's History.

The total prize money is 2.5 million dollar for Nadal, 1.5 million dollars for winning the US Open and a Bonus of 1 million dollar for winning the US Open series final to make it a double. Andy Murray tied Nadal for Olympus US Open series Bonus Challenge at 145 points , but eventually won the challenge against a head to head record, at which Nadal is ahead with Murray ( Nadal was the winner of the semi final match at Toronto for the ROGERS MASTERS Cup enroute to win the title.)

Nadal Cruises into the 2nd round of US open

Stumble Upon Toolbar
Rafael Nadal moves into the second round of the US Open Mens Tennis Tournament after being stretched a bit by the German Qualifier Bjorn Phau in straight sets 7-6,6-4-7-6.

It looked as if Nadal, the newly crowned no:1 player in the world would have an easy outing against the German who is playing only the second ATP match of the year. German Bjorn Phau ranked 136 in the world played some good tennis in stretching Nadal into three tie breaks, Nadal looked wiery after his gruelling tours, first the Wimbledon win, then winning the Gold at Beijing and now travelling all the way back.

He made 36 unforced errors and when it looked Nadal would win the set, German twice forced the game into tie breakers, Nadal roared to win them easily. Asked how he is feeling after becoming the No:1 Player in the world and top seeded at the US open, he replied the goal was same when No 2 and it would be the same now, to win the US open.

Rain stops play at crucial 4th match of the series

Stumble Upon Toolbar
The Crucial match between India and Sri Lanka, infact the series decider if India scores a victory here could clinch the series.

But the conditions at the ground were not so good, as there is a drizzle and the ground is covered up, India will be looking to make the most of the lead as it is leading the series 2-1 now and if it wins the match then it will be home with the series with the last match becoming inconsequential. But now the rain has with held the match and it doesn't look so good. Catch up with you all for an interesting out come of the match, I presumably hope so.

What are the essentials for a new Blogger, my experience about a short journey in Blogosphere.

Stumble Upon Toolbar
Here comes another one, the same old Blogging philosophy, but I want to share my shortest of experience, building my Blog and kind of difficulties I am facing and what really I have gained as a new Blogger, with people who are quite experienced and on their way, as well as with the new entrants who are just recently into this. Basically I want to share as well as learn both at the same time, so that I can reach a point where I can say, yeah I am doing fine and now I know exactly what I need to do ahead to keep continuing. Being a technical science student, it was a bit easier for me to start, and I really found out building a decent Blog doesn't need any big effort.

But the actual point is, I had to work really harder than I expected, and I have worked harder and I know there is lots and lots of work which is remaining, and there are a few important reasons that I want to discuss.

Firstly, things are not as they used to be in the past, there are very well established Blogs out there who have consolidated and the blogging community is expanding faster, and also there are news, people abandoning blogs all together because of failure to generate traffic or in other sense failing to attract the readers.

Let us elaborate on the first point i.e., How to establish your blog in a market which is already established, I will say there are two points behind this that we could build up on, firstly we need to do a little bit of research about our own abilities and strong points, where you can prove yourself to be the best, any field of your liking or interests, that you might think that will sustain you through out the journey in blogger world, if I can say 'I am a Jack of all trades' half of my work is almost done, remaining part is applying yourself on to the job of building a successful blog. If you think you lack some skills and there is no need to press the panic button, you should make up your mind to learn out a few gimmicks about every technology that might come across you while building a successful blog. And it is never difficult as a blog is completely a designed object or a product, where you need to made slight changes to suit your needs, that you might think are necessary for building the blog, you should know very well where your blog stands in terms of design, in terms of content, in terms of usability, visitor friendly, you need to decide early what sort of visitors you would like to your blog, it will be wrong to presume that whole of the world is going to visit my blog, it can be true if your blog cater to the needs of your visitor, but wise thing would be to consolidate first on a select group and then try to expand yourself when you are a well established source of information. If you try to do as many things as faster there is a chance that we might not achieve the goal of building a successful blog, which should be out least priority.

Secondly , there will always be space for new entrants with new ideas, people always look out for new things as it is a common human psychological trait, that you need more and more of it and you are never satisfied. So, these are the few points I think will motivate a new blogger who is just out there in the traffic and wants to prove himself. I will deeply appreciate, if readers can point out to me my shortcomings through comments, as I myself have faced a lot of trouble building one and I really had to work hard on this. So, I will greatly appreciate if there any suggestions for me so that I can improve as I know there is a lot of scope for improvement on my blog.

Moving ahead with the next thing, think before actually starting to build a blog, What Blog you want to start with, is it related with Science, or related with News and Media or Entertainment or Economy or Medicine or Sports etc. you need to be pretty sure about that. Why I am saying this coz, we will not have the best of opportunities to turn back after going on to a road ahead for a while and say Hey I would have better did this or that. You might make changes but those are not the ideal method or way to build a Blog. And also one of the important things that I found out was, every single effort while blogging is worth more valuable than we might think.

Only thing you should know pretty well, what you want to achieve through your blog, what actually you want your blog to be, decide the subject early, and stick to it like a lizard. I have found some good small steps one need to keep in mind before actually starting to build a Blog. And after deciding thoroughly what you want to blog about, take the next step. I mean to say, like we take every single decision in our daily lives blogs need to be defined and should taste in the similar manner and should cater to people that you are expecting will visit the blog, make it popular and a successful one . Unless you don't figure it out then don't start just building your Blog, as you will soon run out of gas pretty faster.

Blogging is fun as long as you know, what you are blogging about. You need to understand thoroughly what you are expecting from your blog, as soon as you do that, you are on your way. There are lots of points that I want to discuss and I know this will not fit into a single post and I would like to continue the work in my next posts as I progress and I request the readers to leave suggestions that you think are appropriate for me and I will follow up. And I sincerely thank you for reading and sharing the experience.

Unravelling the Mendis mystery.

Stumble Upon Toolbar
Indian skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni was talking about the way out to battle Mendis on the field. After his match winning batting performance which helped India score a formidable total, Dhoni was all confident personified on how to take on the Sri Lankan mystery spinner, to him most of the Indian batsmen fell time and again, sometimes against playing him out and sometimes defending him, so one would definitely like to know How to play him ?

Here's what Dhoni suggested with his shrewd cricketing sense, for which he is so admired in this Cricket crazy country. Dhoni, didn't present any magical strategy to take on the spinner, but pointed towards some simple mindset when batting out against specialist spinners. He asked the batsmen to punish the loose deliveries from the spinner so that there's always pressure to bowl a tight length, that definitely works when you know it is a trap or really a loosener. And that's where a good batsman like Dhoni leads his team to some memorable performances.

And it was no surprise why Dhoni's absence was so missed in the recently concluded Test series and he could have really made a difference both by keeping the wickets and knocking out Medis. How good Indian batsmen will tackle Mendis from here on in this series will definitely be an indication how good he is going to shape in the future.

It is no doubt that he is a class bowler but One day international Cricket is a different ball game altogether, where a bowler needs to be consistent through out, and how good your support bowlers are bowling in those phases of a match also makes an impression on your bowling strategy.

It will be interesting to see How Mendis and Indian batsmen play out each other. One thing is for sure, Dhoni will surely like to win this series, to avenge the Asia cup series, when the cup slipped through India's hands.

USA has won the 4 x 400m relay handsomely breaking the Olympic Record of 2:55:39s successfully defending the title, the race was completely dictated by the US runners right from the start, with 400m Gold medalist Leshawn establishing a slender lead at the first change,

Angelo Taylor, David Neville worked through the race and established a good lead with Belgium and Bahamas fighting out for the Silver and Wariner the silver medalist for 400m, running the last leg taking over the baton broke the Olympic Record at the event. Silver and Bronze were won by the Bahamas Runner Christopher Brown and Russia's Denis Alexeev.

The Belgium runner was in the silver position for most of the race, but in the last leg Arnaud Ghislain was overtook by the Bahamas runner and then Russia's Alexeev made a quick attempt to pass both Ghislain and Christopher Brown, but he held out to win the Silver and the Russian settled for the Bronze thus edging out Ghislain from Belgium.

America now leads the Athletic Table with a tally of 23 medals improving its overnight medals tally with seven Golds, nine Silver and seven Bronze, followed by Russia and Jamaica.

Earlier, Women's 4 x 400m team won the Gold for US in the Relay Final with the season's best timing, so overall America recovered from the sprint setbacks to now lead in the Overall Athletics medal table by regaining the formidable lead.

All time Olympic Medals tally is awesome !

The American all time medals tally here shows how strong America is in two disciplines namely Athletics and Swimming, which are its key sports of domination at the each and every Olympics starting way back in 1896.

The American domination has been shattered here by the Jamaican sprinters, with Usain Bolt leading the charge, with three new World Records in as many events. Where and why America has faltered in its key sport of domination is the question doing rounds in the American camp.

Though Swimming is largely still the American favourite discipline at the Olympics, where Michael Phelps has broken Mark Spitz record of Seven Golds with his eight Golds at this Beijing 2008 Olympics.

Though USA has dominated the Olympic all time History of total number of medals of 2177 of which nearly 900 of them are Golds which are half way mark ahead of the nearest competitor in the all time Olympic History.

Russia leads at Beijing Olympics 2008 as per the latest data from the Athletics Medal count with 6 Golds in its total of 15 medals, followd by Jamaica with equivalent number of 6 Golds in its Total medal count of 10 and America is at no 3 with 5 Golds in its total medal count of 21. So, there is a remarkable drop in performance from America in Athletics discipline in Beijing.

What with Marion Jones episode continue to hound the American Athletics fraternity, more is still to come at the IOC's hearing which is later going to decide on one of the Gold medals, which Jamaican sprinter Ottey who now represents Slovenia, is expected to be upgraded with her silver at Sydney in 4
100m sprints, which she won in 2000, becoming the oldest female athlete in the Track and field event at the age of 40 years and 143 day, and at Athens in 2004 she equalled the record of most number of appearances by a female at Olympics with Swedish fencer kristin palm. She has a span of 20 years of Olympics participation, where she won her first Bronze in 200m event and the latest4100 m at Sydney.

The total medal count of most dominating sports nation on earth.

So, USA leads the total number of medal count of 102 medals, with 31 Golds as on Aug 22 Friday, with 36 of them Silver and 35 of them Bronze. And with China winning 47 Golds out of a total medal count of 89, and 17 Silvers and 25 Bronze. It is clear being the host nation China had the home advantage and capitalised by converting more number of would be Silvers and Bronze into Gold winning performances, but there are widespread disagreement over way the Gymnastics and some other events were decided on the new Ranking System called the Countback System, but it has nothing to do with China as it is not the Rules making body, this issue comes under the perview of IOC.

But the Chinese Gymnasts has been under cloud of being underage, particularly the women athletes, with some of them suspected to be under age, but officially China has completely denied such allegations.

This analysis gives rise to one question does China playing the host has given them the distinct Psychological advantage of scoring more number Golds in Local conditions at Olympics 2008 ?

A complete Jamaican sweep in both the Men's and Women's Athletics events at the Beijing Olympics was stopped by the Russian Women's team by winning 4x100m Relay event at the National stadium in Beijing, with latest flash news coming in, with a time of 42.31s.

Brazil's Higa Maggi in the Women's Long Jump Final

The other flash news are in the Long Jump Final, where Brazil's Maurren Higa Maggi won the Gold in the Long Jump event with a jump of 7.04m beating the Russian defending champion champion Tatyana Lebedeva who took the silver with a jump 7.03m and was favourite for the title, with Blessing Okagbare of Nigeria coming third to take Bronze with a jump of 6.91m.

So, with this the Swedish World Heptathlon champiom Carolina Klüft's quest for the Gold at this Olympics, specially in the Long Jump event has ended.

The latest news is Jamaica has smashed the World Record with a timing of 37.10s to take the Gold in the Men's 4x100m Relay event. Usain Bolt has done the Hat trick at the National Stadium in Beijing, winning three Golds and all of them with World Record performance which no man has ever achieved in History. What an exciting performance by the Jamaican. This Olympics will surely be remembered as much for Phelps heroics, as well for the new sensation from Jamaica, Usain Bolt.

Usain Bolt, the newly crowned King of Sprints.

Stumble Upon Toolbar
Usain Bolt, the new icon in the Athletics Arena, set two new world records in 100m and 200m events at the Beijing Olympics, setting new benchmarks 0f 9.69s and 19.30s, the only man to do so ever in the history of the games, following in the footsteps of Carl Lewis who was the last man to have won both 100m and 200m both at the same games, though Lewis had also won the Long Jump Gold.

Usain Bolt's comments after winning the 200m race

"It is great. I have a great feeling. It is a dream come true." said Bolt.

"No. I was worried after the semis but I just told myself to leave everything on the track. I had come here to do it. And I am so happy with myself," said Bolt when asked whether the record would be broken.

"I knew the track was a fast track but I didn't think this was possible. I am shocked. I am still shocked. I have been aspiring for the world record for so long". said Bolt

"I worked so hard to become the champion. I will work hard to stay on top," said the Jamaican.

IOC chief : Bolt should show more respect to his fellow competitiors

Guy Rogge was unhappy about the way Bolt carried out his victory celebrations after winning the races, according to Rogge, Bolt looked like forgetting the fellow competitors after the sprints, instead of sharing his winning performance and offering his respect to them, by showing grace in times of victory.

photo xinhua

"But I think he should show more respect for his competitors and shake hands, give a tap on the shoulder to the other ones immediately after the finish and not make gestures like the one he made in the 100 meters."

"I understand the joy," Rogge said to AFP.

"He might have interpreted that in another way, but the way it was perceived was 'catch me if you can.' You don't do that. But he'll learn. He's still a young man." Rogge added. Referring to the way Bolt finished his 100 meters World Record breaking performance with such and ease elan and some shows too, like dropping hands and pounded chest while finishing the crossing line.

But Rogge also heaped praise on Usain Bolt who has turned 22 on Thursday and has broken Michael Johnson's 12 year record of 19.32 by two-hundredths of a second and added he should be now considered in the same league as Jesse Owens who famously dominated the 1930's.

Churandy Martina of the Netherlands Antilles and Wallace Spearmon were found for the lane violations and hence their performance were declared disqualified and defending champion from America Shawn Crawford and Walter Dix benefited who finished the race in 4th and 5th position in the race with Silver and Bronze respectively. But that also meant Bolt won the race with widest of margins ever in the games history.

What is the Ranking System at International Olympic Committee at Olympic Games?

IOC (International Olympic Committee ) says it does not recognise ranking by countries for any number of medals, Chinese official Olympic web site ranks countries both by total number of medals won and total no of Golds. Is it ok ? or Is it discrimination or what ? Check the facts at my blog. valleyz.blogspot.com

I read your post, but I'm not sure what your point is. Olympic medals have always been ranked by country during any Olympics as far as I remember (and I've been around for a while). Every country does that, not just the Chinese. Besides, your post seems to be comparing the Athens 2004 medals tally with the current Beijing 2008 tally.

Thanks for the reply, IOC clearly says that it does not recognize 1,2,3 slots for countries ( I have made some observations at my post in my blog ), and it creates the medal table info only for information, so why the countries stick to the ranking system when IOC itself a body of all the countries says it does not.....in true spirit. I think the answer lies in IOC's stand that it does not recognize global ranking per country (Is this the Olympic Spirit ?)...then why this practice amidst us ?

I see the point, since the Olympic spirit should be about "partaking in" more than "winning" the games, but I don't see anything wrong in country ranking. I don't feel that my country is "inferior" because we happen to be somewhat down the list.

Yep, You got it right, I too don't have any reservations for this ranking system, but may be I feel somewhere some countries do bear this feeling, Olympics has always drew demonstrations if we looked at its History, due to various other reasons other than the sports. I think that's where IOC wants to steer clear of this Ranking System, which I feel is a good step in right direction. But what about the participating bodies ? Why aren't countries following IOC in upholding this spirit ? Doesn't it look like dissimilar practices.

Although the medals are awarded to the athletes and not to the countries, the athletes are representing a country, so it's only natural to compare number of medals per country.

No, I think the medals are awarded to the countries only athletes represent those countries, that's why its a huge honor for an athlete I think to win a medal for the country, every athlete's dream is to represent his country so I think ultimate credit goes to the country and it does not relate to any one with any different meaning.

If the tally table at the ongoing Olympics is to be seen, I think, here there are two leaders one who has got more more no of overall medals and the other one who has got more no of Golds, also there's a podium to for the top three countries to occupy the 1,2,3 on the top left corner of the site.

What is the ranking system at International Olympic Committee at the Olympic games ?

Stumble Upon Toolbar
Well, there has been news reports today regarding the new scoring system that the authorities employed at the Gymnastic games in this edition of Olympics.

Many have said this has cast a shadow on the overall gymnastics event, what with the Chinese has performed as never before since the former Soviet Union.

The grievance here is China won 3 out of the 4 Golds, but US and France were denied a place at the Podium, yes it looks a bit indigestible, but we need to dig deeper to find what it is,

The old rule "perfect 10" was replaced with two marks,
1. A mark out of 10 (which resembles the old one) for execution.
2. Another mark for reflecting the difficulty of the routine.

Countback System

Now the US Gymnast Nastia Lukin and He( it is the Chinese player's name to avoid any confusion ) both scored 9.025 for execution and 7.7 for difficulty to give them a score of 16.725 each.

Now here comes the reason why the medals are not being shared these days, International Olympic Committee IOC, told International federation of Gymnastics to stop sharing the medals after the Atlanta Games. And the new tie break system to decide between these types of ties were employed after that in 1997

What is the actual rule ???

The actual rule is the Count back System where the highest and lowest of five judges marks were progressively removed until a winner emerged.

"I don't know if anybody understands what the Hell is going on " liukin's father and coach Valeri was quoted by AFP as saying. Valeri himself won the Olympic Gold competing for the former Soviet Union on high bar at the 1988 Seoul games.

There were reports in other finals too at the games, where in men's vault final Polish Blenik and France's Bouhail both scored 9.5375 for execution and 7.0 for difficulty to final total of 16.537, and this time it was Bouhail who lost out on Gold.

Sweden's Gold medal hopes look bleak !

Stumble Upon Toolbar

Olympics 2008 in Beijing are nearing the end this weekend, and the Sweden camp is somber with its performance this time. Sweden this time is yet to take a Gold medal and now all the hopes of one are looking bleak. The only time the Scandinavian nation did not won a Gold was in Seoul games of 1988 and there was no participation in 1904 which was attended very sparsely being the exception.

It was a mixed performance from Swede athletes who took 4 Golds at the Athens Olympics 4 years ago with their overall medal tally of 7 , but at Beijing edition of Olympics the medal tally has sharply come down to only 3 silvers and with the only one of the final competition in which Sweden participates is the Women's Long Jump in which the Heptathlon champion Carolina Klüft is taking part, after switching over from the other discipline.

Firstly, Sweden's Carolina Klüft did not want to defend her heptathlon title which she won at the Athens's Olympics, citing her lack of motivation in the event and instead opted for the Long Jump and Triple jump events which she is yet to prove in, earlier she failed to qualify for the finals of the triple jump. Finals of the High Jump competition in which she qualified are slated for Aug 22 Friday at the National stadium at 19:20.

Wrestler Ara Abrahamian's tiff with the IOC has cost Sweden camp with another medal, IOC finally rejecting his adamant repulsive behaviour with stripping his medal. And Susanna Kallur had a very unfortunate run after she fell in the 100m hurdles an event in which she was one of the strong contenders for Gold.

Now the latest, Stefan Holm lost his defence to the Men's High Jump title with a performance in which he came fourth with failing to jump more than 2.32 metres, an event which he won at Athens, eventually Andrey Silnov from Russia won the Gold by clearing 2.36 metres.

Germaine Mason of Britain won silver with 2.34m on countback from Russian Yaroslav Rybakov, who took bronze.

With all eyes on the final at the Long Jump finals on Friday in which Russian contingent are leading contenders with Tatyana Lebedeva has a personal best of 7.33 which is close to the Olympic Record set by the American athlete Jackie Joyner-Kersee at Seoul Olympics in 1988, World Record of 7.52m is held by Galina Chistyakova of the former USSR. So, any one can make a guess of Sweden's Gold hopes at the Beijing Olympics.

Ara Abrahamian story !

Stumble Upon Toolbar
Ara Abrahamian the Swedish wrestler in the Grecoroman category was upset at the decision by the Judges to award the match against him in a match against Italian wrestler,

Abrahamian later won the bronze medal in another decider for the Bronze medal but was not happy, according to him it looked like he was sure to win against the Italian Wrestler who eventually won the Gold at the event and cited political reasons why the judges decided against him, but the Judges thought otherwise, and this led to wild protests and eventually Abrahamian rejecting the medal by leaving it off at the podium after the ceremony.

This incident made the IOC to take disciplinary action against him withdrawing the medal from him and barring his further participation in any of the events at Olympics.

Sri Lanka takes the lead in the series by winning the Opener !

Stumble Upon Toolbar
India loses its first one day cricket match to Sri Lanka by eight wickets, Sri Lanka has continued its winning form where it left in Asia cup. Sri Lankan pace bowlers kept a tight length removing Indian top three with 36 runs on board. Sri Lanka was off to a great start. Nearly half of the job done now it was the turn of Sri Lankan Spinning juggernaut to take the stage. And the job was clinically done. Ajantha mendis removed inform Yuvraj singh who in a practice match scored a big hundred and the Indian bandwagon was complete when Skipper Dhoni was forced to edge a leg break into the slips by Mendis. While Muralitharan kept himself busy with the job of removing the Indian tail, which he was more happier to finish with in no time. And all of the batsmen never made any threatening stance and never did they were allowed to score by the Sri Lankan bowlers.

It is not that Indian batsmen are new to spin, I think the recent 20-20 or you can say 120 ball format has taken over the mindset of cricketers all over the globe, Cricket is a different ball game, where you need to stay at the wicket if you are a batsmen until you have your share of runs, I think the batsmen are losing on the patience front, which is the main element in any successful cricketers repertoire, the best players of spin carve their innings and never get tied down by the spinners.

Inzamam ul Haq comes to mind as one of a few batsmen who never let the situation dominate him, being a middle order batsmen, Inzamam scored many of his international runs playing the spinners who dominate the middle overs in a typical one day innings, instead of the batsmen getting frustrated it was spinners who loved to see his back, if the mindset is to score huge sixes and hard hit fours then you will have to digest these type of annihilation by the opposition, unless you don't learn to be patient you are never going to wear down the spinners.

Even after the advent of One Day International Cricket, Cricketers did not migrate from the basic techniques of the game in quite contrast to what we can see these days, a new format of game, new format of many diverse strokes played by the batsmen these days and new format of strategies will definitely play a havoc on any team with these type of results. It comes down to, on your day you are the king, where Cricket as a game will be the big sufferer.

It is more of a psychological test of a batsmen, where one needs to remember, that he belongs to all the three formats of the game and he can do that only by playing Cricket in a true sense and not just by wagging his bat around.

Three time World Heptahlon champion Carolina Klüft seeks to win Long Jump event at Beijing Olympics !

Stumble Upon Toolbar
Defending champion in Heptathlon event Sweden's Carolina Klüft will be in spotlight in the coming days as she is trying to prove a point or two in the Long Jump, an event which she recently has switched to, altogether abandonding Heptathlon, in which she has dominated for long. Her reason towards cited is lack of motivation to defend her title instead she has invested all her efforts in the women's triple jump and Long Jump events.

25 year old three time world heptathlon champion Klüft has failed in her attempt to qualify for the Long Jump finals at Beijing edition of Olympics, as she finished 20th in the standings with a mark of 13.96 meters, where Francoise Mbango Etone of cameroon successfully defended her title at the event again with a new Olympic Record of 15.39 m and Russia's Tatyana Lebedeva who jumped season's best of 15.32m won the silver medal. Hrysopiyi Devetzi of Greece won the bronze medal.

Now, her focus will be on the Long Jump event where she finished at the 11th place in the overall standings at the Athen's Olympics and now is the event of focus for Klüft . Where Russians have made a complete sweep in the past, Lebedeva is the defending champion in the Long Jump event as she won the Gold at the Athen's edition of Olympics. Russian is not only thedefending Olympic champion but also the reigning world champion from the Osaka championships of last year.

IOC does not Recognise Global Ranking per Country !

Stumble Upon Toolbar

The International Olympic Committee says that it does not recognise global ranking per country, then is not Chinese Olympic body a part of IOC ? and or is it OK for the Chinese body to follow a ranking system of their own ?

Going by the respective websites of both the bodies they don't seem to be adhering to same standards. Have a look.

" The International Olympic Committee (IOC) does not recognise global ranking per country; the medal tables are displayed for information only.

Furthermore, the results that we publish are official and are taken from the "Official Report" - a document published for each Olympic Games by the Organising Committee. However, for the first Olympic Games (until Antwerp in 1920), it is difficult to give the exact number of medals awarded to some countries, due to the fact that teams were composed of athletes from different countries.

The medal tables by country are based on the number of medals won, with gold medals taking priority over silver and bronze. A team victory counts as one medal." ------ IOC International Olympic Committee.

But the Official Chinese website for Medals tally clearly is out of bound with their parent body and hence I believe discriminates the Olympic Spirit. Actually what I was focusing on was to publish Medals tally and ranking them. And when I was going through the search I found the Official Athens Olympics website closed down, so I followed the IOC website and found this declaration by the IOC. If it is the case then Official Chinese media should consider about this ranking system. This observation is made in true Olympics Spirit.

Reward $15,876 !

Stumble Upon Toolbar
Now, that's a story. Can anybody find a lost dog, the reward for recovering the dog is a whopping 100,000 Kroner ( $15,876 ) now that is quite a reward. The dog belonged to an elderly couple Maina and Lars Ullstrand in Norrköping in eastern Sweden.

And the prize money being offered is by an anonymous billionaire businessman from Scandinavia and he has this to say "To steal a poor defenceless dog, that's really low. With this money, they (the robbers) can buy a lot of dogs," the Scandinavian billionaire speaking to Local newspaper Aftonbladet in Sweden on condition of anonymity.

The couple have searched the dog desperately but to no avail. "We're in total despair. He's like a child to us," said Ulstrand, 60, to the newspaper TheLocal in Sweden, the couple were overjoyed to have heard the news of a businessman supporting their cause.
