The American all time medals tally here shows how strong America is in two disciplines namely Athletics and Swimming, which are its key sports of domination at the each and every Olympics starting way back in 1896.

The American domination has been shattered here by the Jamaican sprinters, with Usain Bolt leading the charge, with three new World Records in as many events. Where and why America has faltered in its key sport of domination is the question doing rounds in the American camp.


Though Swimming is largely still the American favourite discipline at the Olympics, where Michael Phelps has broken Mark Spitz record of Seven Golds with his eight Golds at this Beijing 2008 Olympics.

Though USA has dominated the Olympic all time History of total number of medals of 2177 of which nearly 900 of them are Golds which are half way mark ahead of the nearest competitor in the all time Olympic History.

Russia leads at Beijing Olympics 2008 as per the latest data from the Athletics Medal count with 6 Golds in its total of 15 medals, followd by Jamaica with equivalent number of 6 Golds in its Total medal count of 10 and America is at no 3 with 5 Golds in its total medal count of 21. So, there is a remarkable drop in performance from America in Athletics discipline in Beijing.

What with Marion Jones episode continue to hound the American Athletics fraternity, more is still to come at the IOC's hearing which is later going to decide on one of the Gold medals, which Jamaican sprinter Ottey who now represents Slovenia, is expected to be upgraded with her silver at Sydney in 4100m sprints, which she won in 2000, becoming the oldest female athlete in the Track and field event at the age of 40 years and 143 day, and at Athens in 2004 she equalled the record of most number of appearances by a female at Olympics with Swedish fencer kristin palm. And this is the all time medal count of the medal leader by Gold count at Beijing Olympics China, the host nation of 2008 Olympics. So, there is a marked difference in the total number of Golds which China leads on Friday, Aug 22 2008 with 47 Golds in total medal count of 89. And more results are expected on the Super Saturday where mens 4x400 Men's relay is also scheduled at the National Stadium, Beijing.

So, USA leads the total number of medal count of 102 medals, with 31 Golds as on Aug 22 Friday, with 36 of them Silver and 35 of them Bronze. And with China winning 47 Golds out of a total medal count of 89, and 17 Silvers and 25 Bronze. It is clear being the host nation China had the home advantage and capitalised by converting more number of would be Silvers and Bronze into Gold winning performances, but there are widespread disagreement over way the Gymnastics and some other events were decided on the new Ranking System called the Countback System, but it has nothing to do with China as it is not the Rules making body, this issue comes under the perview of IOC.

But the Chinese Gymnasts has been under cloud of being underage, particularly the women athletes, with some of them suspected to be under age, but officially China has completely denied such allegations.

This analysis gives rise to one question does China playing the host has given them the distinct Psychological advantage of scoring more number Golds in Local conditions at Olympics 2008 ?
